There are three main types of trauma:
- Acute trauma results from a single incident.
- Chronic trauma is repeated and prolonged such as domestic violence or abuse.
- Complex trauma is exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events, often of an invasive, interpersonal nature.
If I’ve had a trauma do I have PTSD? Not always, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder results when trauma is not addressed in someone who reacts to a traumatic event or events with symptoms that don’t resolve on their own or in a short period of time. Disturbing thoughts and feelings about the event(s), avoidance of reminders of what happened, sudden increases in anxiety or sleep disturbance are just a few of the symptoms that could indicate PTSD. Trauma is what we focus on, not putting a label on you.
if I have PTSD does that mean I’m crazy? Absolutely not. It means that you deserve the very best of care to take the wound that was your trauma and turn it into just a scar, a memory, a part of your history. Let us help with that.
