If I’ve had a trauma do I have PTSD?
Not always. There are three main types of trauma:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) results when trauma occurs to someone who then reacts with symptoms that don’t resolve on their own or in a short period of time. Disturbing thoughts and feelings about the event(s), avoidance of reminders of what happened, sudden increases in anxiety or sleep disturbance are just a few of the symptoms that could indicate PTSD.
If I have PTSD does that mean I’m crazy? Absolutely not. It means that you deserve the very best of care to take the wound that was your trauma and turn it into just a scar, a memory, a part of your history.
The trauma itself is what we focus on, not putting a label on you. You are simply a person who had something happen to you. We can make that something into just a part of your history, not something that defines you or rules your life now.
